iMac HP or Sony?

I want to get a new computer. Want. I just recently upgraded my 'old PC' (circa June 2003) to 1gig of RAM and it is working better. It's been a very versatile desktop and it's been used as everything from a word processing/internet machine to a sound and video studio and a television ... How have I made it so long on 512?

iWant a new shiny; iWant a new toy.

My options at this point seem to be the Sony VAIO LS25E, the HP IQ770, and the iMac. (I'm even considering the Sony Digital Living Systems.)

I've been a PC guy my whole life ... and though I don't look like the guy from the commercials, I'm starting to feel a little iEnvy. Yesterday I saw the iPhone for the first time ... and though I have a phone that has robust features, it was really cool. I don't need a new phone. The last time I bought a new phone it turned out to be a real headache (maybe later). Anyhow. I'm not getting an iPhone (maybe later).

That brings me back to the computer problem. I have a VAIO and love it. It's been great and has lasted a while, all things considered. But I am moving my VAIO (or the new VAIO XL1, 2 or 3) to the living room and want (want) a new desktop.

The Sony has gotten ok reviews. It doesn't inspire me to buy it ... it's an average computer with a great, compact look.

Today, after actually and finally touching the HPIQ770, I was very impressed. The touch screen was fun to use, was very interactive and gives a different experience.

But the iMac looks better than both of those, performs better, is more impenetrable, has great (and affordable) software, clean, intuitive, etc. BUT ... no TV Tuner (still, Jobs?).

However, after months of perusing MacRumors, AppleInsider, etc., Apple is obviously coming out with a new (or updated) iMac within the next two months. Will Apple put out a new computer weeks before their new Operating System? Apparently they will.

Most of the rumors about the next iMac revolve around look. Brushed Aluminum, Red, thinner, sleeker, new keyboard, etc.

So. Obviously I'm not going to buy anything until I see what Jobs does. Here's a prediction:

iPhone-like touch screen for the iMac ...

if that happens, screw the TV Tuner. iWant it.
